1 in 8 Schoolchildren Subjected to Cyberbullying in Kazakhstan, Report Reveals

1 in 8 school-age children in Kazakhstan experiences cyberbullying. This is evidenced by data from the international study “Health Behavior in School-Age Children” conducted by HBSC.

The results of the study were shared on March 27 by the National Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"About 11% (1 in 9) of adolescents participated in cyberbullying of other people. Boys (14%) were more likely to report participating in cyberbullying than girls (8%). 13% of Kazakhstani adolescents (about 1 in 8) experienced cyberbullying, with rates among boys being higher (15%) than among girls (12%),” the report states.

Key findings for Kazakhstan:

• Bullying at school - on average, 5% of adolescents aged 11-15 are involved in bullying at school. This behavior is more common among boys (6%) compared to girls (4%).

• Victims of bullying at school – approximately 7% of adolescents have been bullied at school, with no significant difference between boys and girls.

• Social inequality – teenagers from high-income families are more likely to be bullied and cyberbullied by their peers compared to teenagers from low-income families.

• Physical fights – 1 in every 13 teenagers has been involved in a physical fight. 12% of boys and 4% of girls took part in fights.
