Ministry of Defense Lieutenant Colonel Detained in Astana Over Alleged Minor Corruption

On April 13, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported the detention of a lieutenant colonel of the Armed Forces in Astana. He is suspected of corrupting minors, Zakon.kz reports.

The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Shyngys Alekeshev told Zakon.kz that a criminal case was opened against the lieutenant colonel under Part 2 of Article 124 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Corruption of minors.”

Part 2 of Article 124 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides for the same act (corruption of minors) in relation to a minor by a parent or other guardian.

The case was registered with the Regional Military Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The suspect was placed in a temporary detention facility. Other information is not disclosed in the interests of the investigation.

Senate deputies are concerned that according to the new amendments to the law on the protection of women's rights and the safety of children, Kazakhstanis will begin to be deprived of parental rights en masse.
